Our Story

I’m Dr. Ebony Allen Toussaint and G is for Gullah is not only an alphabet book, but it’s about #GrowingUpGullah This book is dedicated to the matriarch of my family, my grandmother, Martha. This book is personal to me. This book is home. The Sea Islands have been home to my family for over 7 generations. The illustrations you see are of my family. This is how we celebrate our culture. These are our traditions. I love being Gullah! I hope you will join me in my efforts to preserve my culture. The proceeds from my books fund scholarships for Gullah Geechee high school students who have been admitted to college to study in the health professions or biomedical sciences. Learn more about the scholarship program here. A portion of the proceeds supports the Original Gullah Festival and the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor.
